INTRODUCTION TO THE ACPM?

The ACPM is a voluntary association of specialist project management professionals working in the built environment. It has various categories or membership. Membership is not automatically granted to applicants and therefore, membership may be considered to be an additional qualification.

NEED FOR REGULATION

Over the past decade there has been an ever increasing use of Project Management Services in both the local and international building industries. This has led to debate over the need to formalise the services of Project Managers operating in the commercial building industry. In turn this has raised the need to form a body representing the interests of Clients and practising Project Managers.

HISTORY & BACKGROUND

More than seven years ago an interim Executive Committee was formed to consider the merits of creating an Association of Construction Project Managers. The formation of the Association was suggested and supported by the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) Building Development Committee. From the outset the founding members have been emphatic that the Association should not be an ‘old boys club’ and should restrict entry only to those who are suitably qualified and practising in the field of Construction Project Management.

PURPOSE

It's purpose has been to define the service and performance levels expected from Project Managers and to recommend an appropriate fee scale.

In addition to preparing a Code of Conduct and Membership Criteria, the Executive Committee has developed a Model Form of Construction Project Management Agreement containing the Scope of Services expected.

BURSARY

To go to the Bursary Application Page, please click here.

A Bursary Fund has been established by the ACPM to fund the studies of a student from the Previously Disadvantaged sector of the community currently studying towards one of the following:

  • BSc Construction Management
  • ND Construction Management

Please note that it is a requirement that the successful applicant enters into an Agreement that could require that they take up employment in a Construction Project Management Consultancy after the completion of their studies.

The Bursary is only available to South African Citizens and the applicants must be existing students studying towards one of the above qualifications.

The Bursary will cover all Academic Costs as well as making a contribution towards the cost of books and other expenses to a limit of R 25 000 per annum.

All bursary applications must be returned by the close of business on the 28th February of the year of application to the Education & Empowerment Sub-Committee, the Association of Construction Project Managers, Attention: Charles Israelite, PO Box 1297, Gallo Manor, 2052.
